July Male Model of the Month- Phoenix

Persuade: Mr. Phoenix, Welcome to the Persuade realm, lol

Persuade: How long have you been modeling?

Phoenix: I started modeling when I was 19

 Persuade: How did you first begin modeling, being that it’s such a challenging industry to get into?

Phoenix: A photographer, who was also a good friend of mine, asked me to be a model in one of his projects.  It was intimidating at first; all of the lights and instruction was overwhelming.  I learned very quickly that modeling is hard work.

 Persuade: What is your inspiration for modeling?

Phoenix: My first love is actually music.  I love being an artist.  Modeling works hand and hand with promotions and branding.  Modeling allows me to show my versatility.

 Persuade: How do you handle rejection from various designers or agencies? Do you ever become discouraged?

Phoenix: I don’t get discouraged.  In this business you must be able to accept hearing “no, you are not what we are looking for”.  I learned to take the feedback that I get and apply it to future opportunities. You will always find a designer/ agency/ photographer that loves what you can bring to the table.

 


 Persuade: What’s next for Phoenix?

Phoenix: The question should be what isn’t next for Phoenix…lol.  I’m looking forward to building my brand; doing more photo shoots, commercial/print work and fashion shows.  I will be featured in, and also opening up for, a cancer awareness fashion show in Texas in the fall.  I’m just trying to stay on my grind and get better at my craft.

Persuade: What are the advantages as well as challenges, if any, of being a model in today’s industry?

 Phoenix: One of the advantages of being a model is that it allows me to take on the role of different characters.  I enjoy transforming on camera and bringing pictures to life.  One of the negatives is that I’m short… so it limits me from doing a lot of runway work.

 Persuade: Who are some of the models in the industry that have inspired your work?

Phoenix: Tyson Beckford, Ben Hill, Andre Douglas, Rob Evans and Ignacio Figueras, just to name a few. Their work is amazing and they make modeling seem so effortless.

 Persuade: Who would you say is your biggest fan?

Phoenix: A combo of my family and friends.  They are my biggest support system.

 Persuade: What is your ultimate goal when it comes to your modeling career?

Phoenix: To break barriers. To prove that even without the height I have what it takes to be a top model.

 Persuade: Tell us a little known fact about Phoenix?

Phoenix: I am a gamer.  I love to play video games.  My PS3 is my best friend.
