The Holidays are rolling out and Grammy nominations are in!
The 2013 Grammys will be held on February 10, 2013, and only two words come to mind: Frank Ocean. With six Grammy nominations including Best New Artist, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year, the New Orleans native has much to be thankful for this season.
Ocean is breaking barriers and “gives new light to so many young people…” according to Russell Simmons on Globalgrind.com, who supported Ocean on his decision to write publicly to fans about his first love being same-gender.
“These types of secrets should not matter anymore, but we know they do, and because of that I decided to write this short statement of support for one of the greatest new artists we have,” said Simmons.
Ocean is not the only male artist Grammy nominators are batting eyes at. Artist/songwriter/producer, Miguel is up for five Grammys including, Song of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Other rather interesting nominations this year include Beyonce Knowles vs. SWV.
Knowles, up for Best Traditional R&B Performance for her song, “Love on Top,” is competing against SWV’s remake of the Patti Labelle song, “If Only You Knew.” Hosts of NBC’s The Voice, Adam Levine and his band Maroon 5 are nominated for two Grammys alongside co-host Blake Shelton, who is nominated for Best Country Solo Performance.
Last, but certainly not least, former U.S. President, Bill Clinton is competing against comedian and host, Ellen DeGeneres for Best Spoken Word Album.
The Grammys will be hosted at the Los Angeles Staples Center and is scheduled to air solely on CBS at 8pm EST.
